Summer Safety Tips To Avoid Personal Injury
Summer and its longer days often go hand and hand with outdoor activities, vacations, events, cookouts, and pool parties. However, fun summer events such as these also come with the risk of personal injury, including preventable injuries.
We’re offering a few summer safety reminders to keep in mind to help avoid injury and ensure that you take away only good, safe memories this summer – and what to do if things go wrong due to the negligence of someone else.
Swimming Safety
Whether you are at a pool party or out on a lake, river or on a beach, always remember to stay aware and monitor children. Both children and adults should always swim in designated areas where lifeguards are present and never swim alone. Property owners, including public pools and resorts, must maintain safe environments. Inadequate signage, broken equipment, or lack of lifeguards are unsafe and unreasonable and if someone is injured a as a result, the property owner and/or manager could be responsible.
Boating Safety
Living in Maryland brings lots of opportunities to enjoy boating on the Chesapeake Bay, at the beach or on one of our beautiful rivers. While boating you can stay safe by always wearing a life jacket. Never overload your boat with too many guests. And, always make sure your driver stays sober. If you are injured due to another person’s negligence while boating, you may be entitled to compensation, especially in cases involving commercial boating operators or rental companies.
Theme Park Safety
To stay safe at amusement and trampoline parks during summer, prioritize sun protection, stay hydrated and wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Always be aware of your surroundings and follow the safety rules of each ride or activity. Theme parks and water parks have a legal duty to ensure their attractions are safe and properly maintained. If they fail in this duty, they can be held accountable.
Driving Safety
Summer also means more cars on the road. Summer holidays are the deadliest for car accidents. Make sure to never operate vehicle when under the influence. To avoid a DUI, find a designated driver before the night begins or call a car service to transport you home. Avoid distractions such as cell phones while driving and use extra caution while driving through active work zones.
